Cufflinks - Indian head penny

  Indian Head Penny Cufflinks
Copper pennies and streling silver
These cufflinks are made from two 1900 copper Indian head pennies.  The backs are sterling silver.  In order to preserve the patina on the pennies, I chose to rivet the pieces together with silver wire, as the heat from soldering would have required more clean-up and, thus, would have eliminated the patina that has taken over 100 years to develop.  Originally, I had high-polished all of the silver but thought a hammered finish was more fitting for coins of this age.  Though they are rather simple, I learned a lot from making these.  They also happen to be some of my favorites.
